First night back after the holidays

January 13, 2011

From my journal:

I’m back. Got in on the last flight to Long Island before all the rest were canceled. Stayed up too late talking to roommates. Should sleep now, but I’m enjoying the romantic view out my window.*

At least 3-4 inches have come down, and I heard it will go on most of the morning. It’s making everything so white and thus bright that I can write this from my bed without a light. The city will probably be mostly closed tomorrow, so it’s just too tempting to stay up with the storm and a mug of hot chocolate watching the taxis slide around on the road, the crooks of branches plug up with white, the buildings opposite flash blue-white from the sparks of braking Subway trains, all punctuated by the Doppler-effect grumble of oncoming and passing snowplows grating the road and waking people as they thunder by. They come in groups of two, three, four. The snow keeps coming too. Hard to not stay up on such a night.

* This photo is not actually the view out my window, but it’s the closest I could find that wasn’t copyright protected.

So, now that your blog is public, everyone will be wondering, “Who is this Vaughn guy that has commented on almost all of her posts? Probably another one of those blog readers that, just because there is a new post, makes a meaningless comment of agreement whose quality in and of itself debases the precise, perfected entry it follows. And he always uses an ellipsis. Probably because he thinks its trendy and because he doesn’t think about how to end his comments.”

and everyone would probably be mostly right…

    ……….

    Ellipses are my favorite.
